I chose this topic because I am passionate about nature and the outdoors. Since I was young, I have been active and loved physical activity. My parents were active about bringing me to parks and outdoor events, but venturing into the forest on my own and reporting back to my parents about my findings was an idea that wouldn't come close to their minds because they were very protective.
When I see current forest schools, it encompasses everything that I wanted to experience through exploring because the surrounding world was seemingly vast and endless. Now as an adult, it is hard to see the world as expansive and explorable unless you fly to another country for an extended period of time, a luxury not many of us have.
In the past, for an adolescent to get in touch with their natural side, it was common to wait until an older age so they could be enlisted into the scouts or cadets so that they can learn natural skills through specific activities and routines. I love the idea of having children build their learning through their own experiences while being given tools to build on their own conclusions. So in conclusion for this post, I'm living vicariously through the content that I find so that I can share in the children's enjoyment of forests and the outdoors!
